A Knowledge-Driven Interactive Platform for Life Insurance & Family Takaful

Since the establishment of the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) in 2002, there have been ongoing calls for a unified online platform in Malaysia to serve two closely related professional communities: family takaful agents and life insurance agents, the latter being governed by the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM). Despite their shared mission of financial protection, a common digital space for meaningful knowledge-sharing and public engagement had long been absent.

This need became especially apparent during the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO), which came into effect on 18 March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The MCO triggered a profound shift in social and professional interactions, forcing engagements between agents and the public to move almost entirely from physical settings to virtual environments.

As restrictions gradually eased toward the end of 2021, society responded in different ways. While some embraced digital interactions as a convenient alternative, many continued to value and long for face-to-face connections. It was during this transitional period that the idea of building LifeForum began to take shape. We believe that in a post-pandemic world, the balance between virtual and physical connections will continue to evolve. At its core, the envisioned platform would be knowledge-based, interactive, and focused on open discussions surrounding life insurance and family takaful.

The LifeForum project was officially kick-started in early 2023, shortly after the public release of ChatGPT by OpenAI on 30 November 2022. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) marked the beginning of a new era in problem-solving and information access. While we acknowledge the growing role of AI, LifeForum was founded on the belief that collective human expertise remains irreplaceable — especially in addressing public misconceptions and concerns with empathy, professionalism, and human warmth. These are qualities that technology alone cannot fully replicate.

In its early development stage, LifeForum introduced discussion forums that allow users to exchange views on topics related to life insurance and family takaful. As the platform evolved, we expanded to include topic-specific blog posts, open to contributions from industry professionals and the wider community alike, ensuring shared learning and broader public benefit.

A significant milestone was reached in 2025, when LifeForum began transitioning into a more community-driven and engaging platform under the new tagline: “Securing Lives · Engaging Communities.” To encourage more casual and meaningful interactions, we launched the Community Buzz section. In addition, we proudly introduced an event listing feature alongside a new user role — Event Affiliate — designed specifically for event organizers, enabling them to publish events and manage bookings with ease.

The creation of LifeForum is not a coincidence, but a deliberate effort to unite qualified professionals in supporting the public on matters of life insurance and family takaful. Beyond being an interactive knowledge platform, the LifeForum management team is committed to upholding strong social responsibility as a core value. Through active community engagement and collaboration, we strive to contribute positively to society and empower individuals with the knowledge needed to secure their financial well-being.
